The business problem
A service business needed dependable shared applications, files, and connectivity as its operations grew. The starting environment relied on basic office networking and individually configured computers. It lacked centralized identity, network segmentation, and a documented server environment.
The work had to establish the foundation while keeping a working service operation running, then carry that foundation through an office relocation.
Building the foundation
Created an Active Directory domain with an organized account and group structure. Group Policy provided a repeatable way to configure computers, map shared resources, and apply settings. Standardizing on business-grade computers made provisioning and support more consistent.
Rebuilt the network with a business firewall, managed switching, and Wi-Fi. Separate network segments organized server and client traffic. Site-to-site VPNs connected offices, and point-to-point wireless links connected buildings where a wired run was impractical.
Consolidated Windows Server roles on Hyper-V, including redundant domain controllers and application services. Shared storage gave employees a central place for departmental files, with permissions tied to directory groups.
Making it maintainable
Backups, infrastructure monitoring, and configuration records were part of the implementation. Monitoring covered server roles, network equipment, and storage so troubleshooting could start with observed conditions.
Network diagrams, rack layouts, and address records documented the environment. During the later office move, the work included structured cabling, server-room layout, redeployment of the network and virtual servers, and updated documentation. The cutover was coordinated around dispatch operations.
The result
The business gained a centrally managed environment for accounts, computers, applications, and shared files. Its infrastructure could support connected locations and survive an office move without being redesigned from undocumented assumptions.
The value was the complete operating foundation: equipment selected and configured for the business, shared services organized around access needs, and enough monitoring and documentation to maintain the result.
